Who am I?

Hi! I’m Matt Coupin. I grew up in California, and have lived in: Boston, Massachusetts; Cupertino, California; and Austin, Texas. I recently got my PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, where I studied under Prof. Jamie H. Warner, and have since taken the opportunity to travel before starting the next chapter of life.

Why have a website?

I’ve been saddened by the decline of personal websites and blogs; much of the internet has been absorbed into a few social media and blogging websites. This is partly a learning exercise - I’ve never made a website before - but it’s also a way to keep people passively updated about my life, where I live, and where I’m going.

Résumé

As an undergraduate, materials science and engineering appealed to me as a foundational, technical, and interdisciplinary STEM field. I wanted a major that would introduce me to a variety of scientific and engineering disciplines. I never could have predicted where it would take me.
